Daelzhar
When speaking of the Daelzhar, a distinction should be made between the modern era of the Daelzhar and the ancient Daelzhar. While their own tongue is one only they can understand, the high elves came up with the word "Daelzhar" to describe them. A compound of the words "dael" (darkness) and "zhar" (consume or devour) in their own tongue.
The Ancient Daelzhar
The ancient Daelzhar were one of the most powerful races to ever exist within the world, only challenged by the high elves of Elarinor. They were a very devious, corrupted race. While the average ancient Daelzhar was only slightly taller than a high elf, it was the commanders of their armies that were to be feared. They were gigantic, demon-like creatures that were as tall as a house and far more powerful than the average elf. Later down the line, during the first Great War, the ancient Daelzhar were sealed away in the Realm of the Banished, putting an end to their long reign of chaos.
Return of the Ancient Daelzhar
While the Daelzhar may have been sealed away, they were not gone, and through various means, they managed to return to the world and unite their armies once again. This time their armies were not made of only pure Daelzhar, as there were also plenty of corrupted among their ranks, such as humans and high elves. However, they were still led by these powerful, gigantic commanders. They now sported magical barriers that not a single type of magic could penetrate, though even those fell with the creation of Zephyr during the second Great War, once again putting an end to their forces.
The Modern Daelzhar
Nowadays, the word "Daelzhar" has a slightly different meaning, as it no longer refers to just the ancient ones, but also those who were touched by their corruption during or after the first Great War. Even if the one touched by their corruption is a high elf, they are referred to as Daelzhar. While most of them have been eradicated, very few still roam the lands, mostly keeping to themselves, hidden from the world. None of the ancient Daelzhar are around anymore within the world, or at least none that are known of. There are several figures that share very close bonds with the ancient Daelzhar, due to one of their parents being one of them, such as Kaelesia.
Destructive Magic
While the high elves of Elarinor require a sort of catalyst to control their magic, those with Daelzhar roots do not. This does not go for a high elf corrupted by the Daelzhar, as they would still rely on their gemstone. However, those who can wield this magic have control over one of the most powerful and most destructive kinds of magic that exist in the world. A type of magic that is often referred to as dark or forbidden magic. While some races have dabbled into controlling this magic, such as the mages of The Blightforged—a human tribe, none have been able to fully grasp its power.
The Daelzhar Corruption
Those who are unfortunate enough to come into contact with Daelzhar magic, are at risk of being corrupted. Best case scenario; the individual is simply turned to be one of them, the corruption digging deep into their very being to align both their mind and body with the way of the Daelzhar. In other cases, this could simply lead to the individual's demise.
One of the biggest events in history that led to mass corruption of non-Daelzhar, was shortly before the first Great War ended, when a gigantic amount of elven magic collided with the Daelzhar armies, sealing them away and corrupting anyone within range of the collision. This resulted in a barren wasteland, a region now known as the Forsaken Lands.
